Description

A Father Called Harv, is the memoir of a 17-year-cancer survivor, whose cancer has recently relapsed. The author recalls his memories of living an idealic childhood, marred only by the cruelty of his abusive, demanding, and alcohol addicted father. It tells of the author's adventures as a young child and teen with his brothers and friends in a community where people were often unaware of what went on in the homes of their neighbours. The book is an illustration how living within a generationally dysfunctional family can leave its members suffering the effect of trauma and self-doubt long into their adulthood. A Father Called Harv contains stories of fear, heartbreak, and very human emotion. The setting takes place in Kinsac, a rural community of Nova Scotia.
