Life for Marta these past nine months has been full of worry-about her neighbors and their tolerance of her, about her relationship with her beau, Sheriff Bourne, and about warlocks who might wage war against her. The new warlock is another's henchman, and, together, they have gathered a formidable army. They even capture witches, using magical collars to make them do the warlocks' bidding. Unable to track them down on her own, Marta seeks the help of a young Native American woman named Wind Rock, who is almost as strong as Marta in the ways of magic. Along the way, Marta meets others who can help... if only she can convince them her cause is just. While she tries to unravel why the death curse won't work, Marta faces many dangers in her quest to rescue Sheriff Bourne, Greta, and Beth.
