Recently, I published a first volume of poems, that has taken me over thirty years of writing to accumulate. I was extremely proud to publish it too, because it was a milestone. It was something I said I would do when I get enough poems written, but I kept putting it off, until now. So I published it and it is available on the lulu website, under my name. But then, I had an idea. As I write my book for Lent, which I have finished today, I could write a couple of pages of reflective thought and then, write a single poem each day, based on the bible reading and before I knew where I was, I had forty more poems which needed publishing. This book, then, as short as it is, is this noble little effort to write some Christian reflections for personal and corporate church use, should anyone want to. If that is the case, then you do not need to ask, but you should give reference to my name at least, for it is all my creation. Some of them rhyme. Others reflect the shape of a sonnet, but maybe are not in iambic pentameter, so the purists out there will throw their Teddy out of their prams pronto when they see the language and structure, but what they are are an attempt to consider faith and belief at this time of Lent when I am writing, but also reflect on how that can be adapted within the rest of the liturgical year. I simply wish to urge you on in your faith, as you read these thoughts. Some are deeper than others. Some will appear simplistic. Some of the best poetry I have ever read or studied, or taught, have been the most simplistic poems going. But, above all, enjoy these poems and be blessed by them, if you can be.
