When high school girl Chantal Meallian is spurned by the guy she likes, she decides to lay off love for a while. Instead, she'll focus on school and in superficial attention from the opposite sex, committing to live her life to the fullest.
Her best friend, Dayvian Peterson, is smart and sassy, but the failure of love in her life-as demonstrated by her parents' divorce-has forced her into bitterness, and she goes through the motions of life with a cynical attitude. Chantal and Dayvian couldn't be more different, and yet their differences and shared traumas bring them together as they grow toward adulthood.
On holiday break in their senior year, the girls travel to Covington, Louisiana, to visit Chantal's family home. Once there, they meet twin brothers Eric and Reggie, and something stirs deep within both of them. Chantal and Dayvian may have different outlooks on love, but when love comes knocking, will their reactions be the same?
