Tamara Fields was recruited by the Company at the age of fifteen. Ten years later her specialty is retrieving children taken and sold to twisted people hiding behind money, power, and prestige.
The first betrayal.
There's nothing unusual about her assignment to retrieve five children before they disappear except she's sent in at dawn instead of under the cover of night. She's also given a partner that she doesn't trust and who fights her every step of the way.
They find the children as their intel indicated and are on their way to freedom only moments before daylight spotlights their escape when gunfire shatters the silence. Running for safety one of the children dies and two bullets take her down. She's captured.
She suffers for ten days at the hands of a master before the Company executes a belated rescue. Her recovery is slow and painful and awakens a burning, simmering rage.
There are too many questions she needs answered. Who set her up, why the Company waited ten days, why they rescued her at all and why she was still alive. Battling nightmares that plague her waking and sleeping, she must discover the answers because she quickly learns they're not through with her.
