Itinéraires
Built from the 16th century by the seigniorial Gouffier family, the Château d'Oiron now houses the Curios & Mirabilia collection of contemporary art, which was liberally inspired by the theme of cabinets of curiosities - a tribute to the fabulous art collection of Claude Gouffier, master of the horse to Henri II. The artists reinterpret an exceptional space with stunning original interiors featuring a gallery of Renaissance murals in the style of the school of Fontainebleau, and painted and sculpted 17th century wood panelling. The visitor is invited to follow in the footsteps of the Marquis de Carabas, master of Puss in Boots - said to have been based on Claude Gouffier - and stroll amongst « curiosities » and « marvels ».
The « Itinéraires » series, designed as a guide for cultural tourism, invites the visitor to discover the highroads and byways of France's national heritage.
