Syren was not accustomed to being spoken to so boldly, and before she had a moment to reconsider, she found her body reacting in indignation. Her hand raised high and flew sharply across the minotaur's long snout in a dull thud of a slap. She gasped at her own daring. His eyes flashed wide and his muscles clenched. His body seemed primed to explode in reaction as the battle-trained warrior he was, but he steadied himself with a deep breath. The corners of his beastly mouth twitched in amusement.
"My father will reward you well if you simply leave our land in peace," she tried to keep her voice strong.
"I already have what I want."
"You can't mean me," her voice sounded small. A low rumble echoed through his massive torso.
"And why should I not? You are a prize," he stepped back to admire her. His narrowed eyes traveled down over her small form. He nodded in approval. "A beautiful young creature, ripe for plucking. There is little else in this world worth having."
She could not believe he would dare speak to her so. There was a hint of reverent admiration in his tone that made her shiver, in no small part from pleasure. His eyes on her set her skin on fire.
