First published in1895, this volume contains a report of a conference held at Holborn Town Hall, London in the October of 1894. The conference discussed the topic of the contemporary decay of English agriculture and the problem of high unemployment, with analyses of causes and various proposals to mitigate these problems. Experiments and Proposals", "Labour for the Unemployed upon the Land", "Employment of Pauper Labour on the Land", "Social Reform in Relation to Agriculture", "The Central Council of Home Colonies and Rural Industries", etc. John Atkinson Hobson (1858 - 1940) was an English social scientist and economist most famous for his work on imperialism--which notably had an influence on Vladimir Lenin--as well as his theory of underconsumption. His early work also questioned the classical theory of rent and predicted the Neoclassical "marginal productivity" theory of distribution.
