The ranch needs to be worked, no matter the threat to them by the militia. Our reluctant heroes and partners, Tony Parnell, Bob Jensen, and Benji Blood, work hard to maintain their relationship while tending the horses and cattle. But when the main house burns, and Benji is kidnapped, all work stops.
Benji wakes scared and shocked by the identity of the ranch hand that was spying for the militia. Still, Tom Grady is a sweet young man, and he doesn't want anyone hurt. Finding out that Benji won't live through the ordeal motivates Tom to help Benji.
When Benji is finally safe, his guilt and fear drive him to keep going after the men that have hurt those he loves most. His new family.
He dons a disguise and goes undercover to weed out any other traitors to the ranch, and once he does, he knows he must risk his own life to save the men he loves.
Pops always said a cowboy would rather die with his boots on than in a soft bed when his hair was gray and his teeth were gone. Well, Benji is about to become a real cowboy—the hard way—but he has no intention of dying.
