Description

This book reflects critically upon integration efforts towards Europe’s Romani populations.

The last few years have seen a renewed focus on the integration of Europe’s Romani populations. This collection of essays offers a series of snapshots, drawn up by scholars from different disciplines, and examines a variety of integration efforts, at different levels and involving a range of institutional actors. Taken together, these essays offer important insights into where we are now.

These papers are the product of a 2012 workshop hosted by the Fundamental Rights and Constitutionalism Research Group (FRC) of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. FRC is Belgian human rights rapporteur to the Fundamental Rights Agency and has so far authored several reports on the non-discrimination status of minorities and the Roma in particular.

Morag Goodwin is Associate Professor at Tilburg Law School, the Netherlands. Her fields of specialization include international law, notably law and development; international and European human rights law; and law and technology. Morag worked as a researcher at the European Roma Rights Center, Budapest, 2000-2001 and has published widely on the topic of Romani exclusion.

Paul De Hert is an international fundamental rights expert, whose works focus on European human rights and criminal law, constitutionalism and the impact of technology on law. He is interested in both legal practice and more fundamental reflections on law.
