As Sam West and her young daughter Rosie rode by the side of the Village Green to visit her mother, Alice, they noticed a board outside the Massenden Tea Rooms with the name Swain-Long and Swain Estate Agents and bearing the words FOR SALE in large red letters on both sides.
Alice was quite unaware that someone had already viewed the Tea Rooms and that very soon she would meet her new neighbour, which for one of the Massenden residents was going to come as a tremendous shock.
New Year was fast approaching - new arrivals would soon be on their way to Massenden. Challenges would abound, all there to be overcome, some more difficult than others and as young Oscar West fell asleep that night his Countess was walking towards him but she wasn't giving him a beautiful rosette, she was handing him the reins of a prancing bay pony. The Countess and the pony were both wearing a small crown. The young lad sighed in his sleep. 'She's very nearly a queen, ' he thought to himself as the grandfather clock struck midnight and the New Year had begun.
