Fanny Hill: Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure, by John Cleland (1709-89), published in 1748, is a classic of English erotica. This edition contains the whole of Cleland's infamous book, which has been banned and prosecuted a number of times (including in the U.S.A. and Britain). It was finally published fully in the 1960s. It has been adapted in cinema and television many times. Fanny Hill is a beautifully written work, lyrical and down-to-earth as well as undoubtedly erotic. It still retains its controversial power. Above all, it is a pleasure to read.
Illustrated by Paul Avril (1843-1928), one of the great modern erotic artists, with the illustrations Avril produced for the 1908 edition of Fanny Hill.
