Some time ago, I was given a small collection of mid 20th Century match box labels. I have wondered what to do with them for many years. The person that collected them, did so as a child when their family travelled throughout the far east. Instead of collecting stamps, like so many British children in the 1950's and 1960's, this boy pulled together an interesting selection of match box labels. The hobby had not yet started, the subject unresearched and unknown.
Now, there is a growing interest in matchbox label, box and book covers design. People of the 21st Century are beginning to understand that these designs, simple as they were, were a very early means of mass communication.
This is a small simple volume of pictures of
over 100 matchbox labels from the far east, from around the middle of the 20th Century. The book (ideal for eReaders) will appeal to design students, collectors and marketing researchers alike. The idea is that hopefully one day, someone, somewhere will be pulling together all this information to form the basis of a collectors hobby or research study. I will only then rest, knowing I have done my bit to help.
