Fred and June: Journeys is a novella about a transgender woman who becomes famous for foiling a terrorist attack at the Chicago marathon and a childhood friend who is dealing with depression. The story describes the reunion of two people who have undergone dramatic changes since they walked home from school together in Santa Fe, New Mexico, but can still find a way to help each other through some difficult circumstances. June, a drag performer with a love of costumes and makeup, has an ironic and playful sense of humor and loves to pull pranks on strangers. Fred tolerates her antics reluctantly but reliably. On a long car trip from Las Vegas to Chicago in June's beloved classic Checker cab, June manages to pull off the riskiest prank of her career.
