'How to Pass GCSE Poetry with Flying Colours: An Essential Guide' is a companion to the author's previous books 'How to Pass GCSE English Literature with Flying Colours: An Essential Guide' and 'How to Pass GCSE English Language with Flying Colours: An Essential Guide.'
This guide to GCSE poetry is divided into three main sections. It begins with a general introduction to poetry, including poetic features and poetic forms. This section includes an analytical checklist to help students respond to poetry.
The second section comprises tasks, examination type questions and suggested responses to forty-one poems. The poems have predominantly been chosen as they are current examination texts, mainly from the AQA, and WJEC-Eduqas examination board anthologies.
The final section gives tips on how to respond to unseen poetry which is an essential component of all examination boards. Examples and suggested responses are given from AQA and Edexcel specimen papers.
The author is an experienced former teacher, private tutor and examiner. Teaching the tips and techniques included in this guide has enabled over 90% of the author's private students in recent years to achieve a pass level in GCSE English Literature.
