Imani Jones has it all figured out. Unfortunately, she can't picture things ending well for herself. How can you if you've never seemed to get the whole "being a good human" thing right- hell, she can't even talk half the time and says all the wrong things when she does. Nobody notices her, nobody would miss her. So it's gotten harder and harder for her to find a reason to stick around.
Aaliyah Thomas is down bad. Not just, "I've had a crush on you for years" bad. But she had a long list of reasons to stay in town for college and Imani Jones was high up on it. When Imani says she's gonna quit their cheer team, fear and concern take over and Aaliyah stops thinking. She just kisses her.
While the girls build their relationship, they mix Imani's love of photography and Aaliyah's love of fashion (and Imani) into a business on social media that helps them bond in ways they wouldn't have thought of.
But when things they tried to ignore come back to bite them, they have to support each other if they want to make it through.
