When Pat Cronin retired as a high school baseball coach in the spring of 2022, he had become only the 17 th coach in the Massachusetts Baseball Coaches Association's history to watch his players win 500 games.
When the 2020 season was canceled due to Covid -19, Coach Cronin began blogging with the members of his baseball program as a means to to keep them engaged in baseball, school, and each other. Drawing on baseball articles and stories he had published over the years, he posted pandemic coping strategies, the "secrets" of
playing winning baseball, as well as new and original baseball stories.
He also wrote about his personal encounters with such baseball legends as Ted Williams, Jackie Robinson, Bill Madlock, and "The Natural," Eddie Waitkus.
"Inside" Baseball in the Time of Covid serves as a chronicle of one baseball coach's attempt to instruct, encourage, and entertain his high school student-athletes during what he "suspected was going to be a very trying time personally for many of them." He also "saw the potential for issues regarding their mental well-being."
