The author argues that if we take seriously the idea that mind is the brain then it follows logicaly that free will does not exist and that freedom of will is just an illusion. That we are just robots who watch our predestined lives unfold before our eyes. He concludes that there can be no consciousness independent of the brain, and that there is no substantiated self that exists independent of the brain. It is for the same reason that he argues that there can be no such thing as absolute moral responsibility.
