Lodestone was a small farming and ranching town in eastern Arizona. It began its meager existence in the mid eighteen hundreds as a mining town. Early on it was settled by a host of prospectors who were seeking to strike it rich mining for silver and gold. The town continued to grow but eventually the rich ore deposits dwindled significantly and the prospectors moved on. Never the less, the town survived mainly by cattle ranchers and farmers.
The town falls victim to an unscrupulous rancher who takes advantage of the lawless town and sets out to own the town. The ruthless rancher goes about buying up and often outright stealing businesses and ranches. He later faces opposition from the Gentry brothers. The two had fought side by side in the war between the states. Later they were scouts for the army fighting together in the Apache wars. Eventually they go their own way. Ross the younger brother becomes a wrangler on a ranch in the Texas panhandle. The older brother Calvin moves to Arizona. He meets and marries a woman in the town of Lodestone and together, they assume ownership of her father's large mercantile business after his illness and untimely death.
A year or more later his wife is concerned her husband Cal could be killed by the unscrupulous rancher seeking to take over their mercantile. She sends a letter to Cal's brother in Texas asking for his help. The letter arrives more than a month or so later. Ross learns his brother is needing help fending off the rancher. He quits his wrangling job and travels horseback to the town of Lodestone, located in the high Santa Rita mountains in eastern Arizona. Cal and is wife live and operate the mercantile in the town. The two brothers are once again reunited after being apart for more than three years.
Ross is four years younger than brother Calvin, but together they take on the arduous task of ridding the town of lawlessness and corruption and taking on the towns biggest threat, the ruthless man bent on owning the whole town for his financial gain.
