Versailles welcomes the new addition to the royal Bourbon family, the Archduchess Marie Antoinette from the Austrian house of Hapsburg. This political alliance formed after years of rivalry finds itself in a critical situation when Antoinette snubs and stubbornly avoids the king's mistress, the Comtesse du Barry, simply because the young Dauphine despised the mistress for her immoral position at court. It was a golden rule that a person of lesser title could not speak to another of a higher title unless spoken to by the latter first this meant that Antoinette had to speak to Du Barry first to give her permission to address the future queen of France! This became Antoinette's weapon against the royal mistress, causing Du Barry great irritation, and even causing yet another great sensation in Versailles, Paris, and even beyond!
