In the small African state of Mandoa, traditions have remained unchanged for centuries. Ruling all is a virgin princess. But the old ways are about to get shaken up when the Lord High Chamberlain goes abroad and discovers modern luxuries, including such novelties as cocktail shakers, motor cars, telephones, and even baths. This is, after all, the ultra-civilized year of 1931.
A comedy of irrelevance by Winifred Holtby (1898-1935).
