Rennes
Rennes
The Majesty & the culture
The first is a photographer, or rather an artist who uses light and curves, blessed with boundless energy to enthuse the curious. The second is an art historian, equally passionate about architecture and heritage, as he is about Rennes, whose beauty he enjoys promoting. One already knew Rennes, the other did not. Fate would have It that they would meet and work together on this enchanting photographic stroll through the city. Going beyond the clichés and the richness and diversity of Its heritage, Chanel Koehl and Cilles Brohon wanted to show, via their work, the magic of the city, to both visitors and the people of Rennes, the latter who have perhaps lost the habit of appreciating the beauty of the city where they live. It is because of the authors' converging points of view that Rennes, the capital of Brittany, imposes its personality, its mysteries, and its treasures, across the pages of this colourful book. Starting from the Mordelaises gates, encompassing the remains of the ramparts that surrounded the old city, that was itself built after the fire of 1720, to the half-timbered houses in Rue de la Psalette, the city of Rennes has developed across the ages to what it is today. Why not stroll through Rennes' impressive heritage, from the Palace of the Breton Parliament, on to Saint Peter's Cathedral, the Place des Lices, Thabor gardens, the Saint-Michel quarter and the Place Sainte-Anne where you can sit out on a terrace and watch Rennes life go by. A stunning book !
