Increment of carbon in the atmosphere is today's major worry; because it is the most important causal factor for global warming, and has direct consequences on the economy, ecosystems, water resources and sea level rise. Ethiopian is also facing rapid deforestation and degradation of land resources and experiencing the effects of climate change such as an increase in average temperature, and rainfall pattern variability. Lack of awareness in role of community forests for atmospheric carbon offset, accelerates widespread clearing of existing forests. Quantifying carbon reserve in community forests would fill the gaps present in potential of community forests in carbon emission balance. This book provides approaches to estimate carbon storage potential of community forests. It also provides method of assessment of environmental factors affecting forest ecosystem carbon.
