After a romantic interlude in Naples, she and Jake go after him, who now is in Istanbul. Tess meets with Amir, but he refuses to give her what she wants. Jake is called back to Iraq, but resigns from the CIA when he realizes that things have gone from bad to worse due to misguided political decisions. He has to go back home to the US, and plans to rejoin Tess in Istanbul. Amir persuades her to spend time with him in France and England in exchange for what she is seeking. Here she meets Fadime, his alluring and decadent sister. In the end, Amir deceives her.Tess returns to Iraq, flying dangerous missions and rescuing wounded soldiers. Jake reconnects with Tess, but cannot bear the thought of her having been with another man. Eventually, Tess has to make a choice between the two men until an unforeseen event changes everything.
