ABOUT THE BOOK AND AUTHOR
The Chimes (or its much longer title The Chimes: A Goblin Story of Some Bells that Rang an Old Year Out and a New Year In) was written by Charles Dickens (1812-1870) and was first published in 1844. This edition contains illustrations from the original 1844 edition.
In The Chimes, Trotty Veck is a poor ticket-porter who has lost his faith in humanity and wonders if people are wicket by nature. On New Year's Eve, spirits visit him to show that people are not born evil and they help restore his faith.
The Chimes is the third of five Christmas novellas by Charles Dickens. The five novellas are A Christmas Carol (1843), The Chimes (1844), The Cricket on the Hearth (1845), The Battle of Life (1846) and The Haunted Man and the Ghost's Bargain (1848). The most famous Christmas themed novella is A Christmas Carol.
Charles Dickens was a prolific writer of novels, novellas, short stories and other works.
