Stony Stratford originated towards the end of the 12th century as a roadside settlement. Barely 30 years later it was able to accommodate King John and in 1291, the royal cortege of Queen Eleanor. The strategic placement of the town, half way between London and Birmingham made it a favourite stopover for travellers in the great coaching age. in consequence the town developed many inns and this book provides an accurate account of the inns through the ages.
