In The Oxford Chronology of English Literature, an extensive, carefully selected checklist of significant and representative works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama, and literary scholarship from 1475 to 2000 is represented. This unique 2-volume set contains a generous sampling of nearly 30,000 works from more than 4,000 authors.
The works within the Chronology are arranged by year of imprint or by actual publication where this differs, allowing readers to access information on printed publications in relation to other works published in the same year or in a sequence of years. And the Chronology has broadened the definition of literature to include a large number of works whose popularity serves to exemplify contemporary taste or which have contributed to the development of a particular popular genre, such as detective fiction.
