Description

The Sorcerer's Apprentice is a novel by Hanns Heinz Ewers, originally published in German in 1907. The story follows the journey of a young man named Anselmus, who becomes entangled in a world of magic and sorcery after falling in love with a woman named Veronika. Anselmus is taken under the wing of a powerful sorcerer named Archivarius Lindhorst, who teaches him the secrets of alchemy and the occult. However, Anselmus soon discovers that Lindhorst has ulterior motives and is not the benevolent mentor he appears to be. As Anselmus delves deeper into the world of magic, he must confront his own fears and desires in order to navigate the dangerous and unpredictable terrain of the supernatural realm. The Sorcerer's Apprentice is a classic work of German Romanticism, filled with vivid imagery, philosophical musings, and darkly fantastical themes.1927. Illustrated by Mahlon Blaine. Ewers varied and stormy literary career began in 1901 with the publication of a volume of rhymed satires entitled A Book of Fables, written in collaboration with Theodor Etzel. This led to an association with Ernst von Wolzogen and the formation of a literary vaudeville theater. The Sorcerers Apprentice was his first novel. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
