The Unique Hamlet is a masterful pastiche that captures the spirit of Sherlock Holmes. Tasked with uncovering the mystery behind a supposed lost version of Shakespeare's play, Holmes and Watson delve into a world of forgeries, greed, and cunning adversaries. This engaging tale combines literary intrigue with the timeless charm of Arthur Conan Doyle's iconic detective.
In 1920, Vincent Starrett privately printed "The Unique Hamlet: A Hitherto Unchronicled Adventure of Mr. Sherlock Holmes."The edition is believed to have consisted of 110 copies, of which about 50 are still known to exist among collectors. Starrett, no stranger to fiction, wrote extensively in the mystery field, including the 1975 book, The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes. He also created his own Chicago-based detective, Jimmie Lavender, whose stories are very much in the Holmes tradition.
