Description

The Works of Ossian, the Son of Fingal Volume 1 is a collection of poems written by the Scottish poet James Macpherson in 1765. The book contains the epic poem Fingal, which is divided into six books, as well as several other shorter poems. The poems are presented as translations of ancient Gaelic manuscripts, which Macpherson claimed to have discovered. The poems are set in ancient Scotland and Ireland and tell the stories of heroic warriors and their battles. The language is rich and poetic, with vivid descriptions of landscapes and characters. The book was highly influential in the Romantic movement and was praised by figures such as Napoleon Bonaparte and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. However, its authenticity has been questioned, and many scholars believe that Macpherson invented much of the material himself. Despite this controversy, The Works of Ossian remains an important work in the history of Scottish literature. In Two Volumes. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
