Tony Cottrell's verse is set in the semi-mythical realm of the Summer Lands to the far southwest of England. Cornwall is unique in being a clearly bounded land still steeped in legend. Here, the veil between the worlds is thin, and while the 'Summer Lands, ' may suggest for some the peaceful Otherworld of the Pagan afterlife, in the title of this book it refers to the mythological landscape itself as a living, creative source that fires and sustains its people. The Summer Lands was home to the Celtic bard who tapped this wellspring of creativity through story-telling. Timeless Tales from the Summer Lands celebrates this tradition through the verses of Tony Cottrell and the artwork of his brother Barry. This revised and updated edition of the original 1993 Tales from the Summer Lands contains some additional verses and images along with detailed information about the linocut illustrations, enabling the book to serve as a catalogue for the prints.
