On January 28, 1986, 7 Space Shuttle Challenger astronauts exited gravity and entered eternity. President Reagan gave quite a speech that day, paraphrasing the poetry of an Air Force volunteer: they "slipped the surly bonds of earth … and touched the face of God." To touch the face of God suggests intimacy, as with someone we know well. In the Bible, we often find expressions such as "seeking God's face" to describe prayer, and occasionally "the softening of his face" which suggests soothing, possibly by touching. One of the most amazing revelations about God in the Bible is that he wants you and me to become intimate with him - and the goal of this book, starting with God's revelation to the prophet Ezekiel, is quite simply to help that become a reality.
