English summary: The building researcher and later building councilor Wulf Schaefer (1907-1994) completed the first part of his work on the 'Building History of Nafplio' in 1936 and added a second part by 1944. The work was never published except for a few typewritten copies due to the war. Alexander Zah has now arranged, abridged and updated it. "The history of the city of Nafplio, its people and its buildings, is to be drawn from all sources that can be found, from written as well as built documents. (...) All the findings of our scholarly endeavours should culminate in the goal of tracking down the driving forces and essences of this city, in other words: to search for the genius loci - in short - its soul". (Wulf Schaefer) German description: Der Bauforscher und spatere Baurat Wulf Schaefer (1907-1994) schloss den ersten Teil seiner Arbeit zur Baugeschichte von Nauplia 1936 ab und erganzte sie bis 1944 um einen zweiten Teil. Das Werk wurde bis auf wenige maschinenschriftliche Kopien kriegsbedingt nie publiziert. Alexander Zah hat es nun geordnet, gekurzt und aktualisiert. "Es ist die Geschichte der Stadt Nauplia, ihrer Menschen wie ihrer Bauten aus allen nur irgend auffindbaren Quellen zu schopfen, aus den geschriebenen sowie gebauten Dokumenten. (...) Alle Erkenntnisse unserer wissenschaftlichen Bemuhungen sollen in dem Ziel munden, die treiben- den Krafte und Wesenheiten dieser Stadt aufzuspuren, anders gesagt: den Genius loci - kurz - ihre Seele zu suchen."
