As children grow older, they want to know more. With the internet being available, this is easier than you think. All it takes the child is a few computer keystrokes, and they would land on the website of their choice. Even with or without the internet, children always find ways to get the information they want. Being online exposes children to a whole new way of discovering things. Or they will access their favourite children's television websites and look at old episodes of their favourite shows. If it does not cost them anything, they will take advantage of what is available on the internet.Even though a child lands on a child-friendly website, some of the sites have chatrooms. Who says the child would not try to access one of such chatrooms? If they are lonely, they can look for new friends online. These are people they have not met before. Eventually, they will start to feel comfortable talking or chatting with them. Little do these children know that they may be setting themselves up for trouble if they are not careful. The person at the other end appears to be interested in "friendship" as well. The relationship gets so intense that the child starts to pour out their heart to them. They would divulge their innermost thoughts and feelings, thinking that the person on the other end will be willing to help them. What the other person is doing is trying to get a hook to take advantage of the child. The child is then wooed with promises of attention, giving and love, all happening via the internet. Then, once they feel that the child is comfortable with them, they would start to introduce sexually explicit contents to the child. Being that children are curious by nature, they would seek to know more. The person begins sending the child sexually provocative images and talks to them in a sexually explicit manner. In essence, they are brainwashing the child to renounce their healthy life as a child and start growing up faster than their age. When the perpetrator wants to move the relationship to another level, they will trick the child into meeting them in person. Once that happens, they would lure the child into staying with them an unspecified period. After that, the parents become hard-pressed to get their child back. The sex offender is not always an older person. Sometimes, the perpetrator may be a few years older than the child. No matter how old the predator may be, they can succeed in luring the child away from home; then the parents would have a problem. Some perpetrators may not necessarily be child molesters per se. However, they may still pose a danger to the child they are trying to lure.
