Description

Chrononhotonthologos is a play written by Henry Carey in 1734. It is a satirical comedy that parodies the conventions of classical tragedy. The play is set in the fictional kingdom of Queerummania, where the pompous and incompetent King Chrononhotonthologos rules with the help of his scheming advisor, Bombardinian. The plot revolves around the attempts of the king's son, Prince Prettyman, to win the hand of the beautiful Princess Angelica, who is being forced into marriage with the brutish Prince Bulbo. Along the way, there are mistaken identities, ridiculous plot twists, and over-the-top characters, including a cowardly general, a bumbling court jester, and a group of incompetent soldiers. The play is known for its use of nonsensical language and absurd humor, and it has been described as one of the most bizarre and entertaining plays of the 18th century.17th Century work. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
