English summary: These volumes present letters 30-39 of the Syriac/Nestorian Patriarch Timotheus, which are edited here for the first time on the basis of a broad examination of manuscript sources, and offers the first translations of Timotheus' letters into a modern language. Within the lengthy letters 34 to 36, Timotheus outlines a unique method of interpreting the scriptures within the context of the Christian conflict with Islam. The interpretation of the title servant for Christ plays a central role in his thought. Jesus's role as the suffering-servant in Deutero-Isaiah had already gained currency in early Christian thought, but within the context of the political ascent of Islam this title was problematic because Muslims argued that Jesus was only a prophet and not the savior. Letters 30 to 33 and 37 offer insights into the earliest history concerning the transmission of letters 34 to 36.
