Showers of red-colored rain and flesh-like material have fallen from the skies upon Planet Earth many times throughout our history. Inhabitants of the ancient world often saw these anomalous episodes as a portent of impending doom. Some of the world's most prominent scientists and naturalists studied the phenomenon, coming up with intriguing theories about the origin of the meat or blood-colored samples they studied--which in some cases eyewitnesses actually saw falling from the sky. Many tried to solve the mystery, but no one ever came up with an explanation as to the origin of the meat that fell out of the sky at places such as Lebanon, Tennessee, Johnson County, Texas, Bath County, Kentucky, Sampson County, North Carolina, or Benecia, California. The cause of many of the red rains is now fairly well understood. Yet despite advances in meteorology, aerobiology, and astrobiology, there are still some cases of red rain whose origins remain elusive.
