Description

Operation Uighur Freedom is the last chapter in a tetralogy of historical fiction books about the life and adventures of Ralph Martínez, one of the 1,400 Cuban children sent to the U.S. by his parents under a program called Pedro Pan. In this sequel to Operation Melting Wall, Ralph, now retired from CIA covert operations, is living in Cleveland with his wife Marlene, running his successful oriental rug business. During a rug buying trip to Urumqi, China, Ralph is shocked to learn that the abuses being inflicted on the Uighur population in Xinjiang, by the Chinese Communist Party, are significantly more serious than what the news media report. Ralph knows that something must be done. Retired from the CIA or not, he is convinced that he cannot just sit on the sidelines. But what? And how? Could it be possible to join up with his former CIA colleagues for one last operation together? But China as the foe? He knows that China is not to be underestimated. And further complicating Ralph's life is Alma, his former lover, who has now re-entered his life and his heart. But not all complications are bad. Operation Uighur Freedom is a work of historical fiction that highlights the current situation of oppression against the Uighur people in Xinjiang. The historical part can sadly be read in the newspapers of today. It is unfortunately true. The fiction part highlights the individual actors in the book and their actions. Although a work of fiction, the suffering of the Uighurs and other minorities in China is very real and a shameful event in world history.
