Description

""Tamburlaine the Great"" is a play written by Christopher Marlowe and published posthumously in 1590. The play is a fictionalized account of the life and conquests of Timur, a 14th-century Central Asian emperor also known as Tamburlaine. The play is divided into two parts, each consisting of five acts. The first part of the play follows Tamburlaine's rise to power as he conquers various territories and defeats rival rulers. He is portrayed as a fierce and ruthless leader who will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. Along the way, he falls in love with a captive princess named Zenocrate, whom he eventually marries. The second part of the play sees Tamburlaine continue his conquests, eventually reaching the height of his power. However, he begins to suffer from a fatal illness and ultimately dies. The play ends with his son taking over as ruler and continuing his father's legacy.""Tamburlaine the Great"" is known for its use of blank verse and its depiction of a powerful and ambitious protagonist. It was a popular play in its time and has been adapted for the stage and screen numerous times since its publication. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
