In Book 3 Teach to Read using Phonics, we will continue to build the skill of sounding out words based on what the children have learned in Book 1 and Book 2 culminating in reading simple sentences associated with a colour picture.
As well in Book 3, we will build the skill of visual discrimination by identifying features in a colour picture as we teach the child to read simple sentences.
Visual discrimination can be defined as the ability to determine and classify objects, symbols, shapes, etc. by differences in colour, form, size, texture, or orientation, or shape by the eyes receiving visual input and analysing that information.
Then we add to the child's motor skills and skills of generalisation by including a black and white picture of the same animals for the child to colour in.
