After a worldwide catastrophe, the earth is in turmoil with millions killed, grieving, hungry, and cold. Governments around the world find themselves stretched with few power stations in operation, fuel and food at critically low levels, and chaos and criminality erupting in many nations as the famine bites.

Extraordinary times for a small town church in eastern Scotland, a God-ordained time, the so-called tribulation period. Due to a false theology a sleeping church finds itself reeling and unprepared; Christ had not taken them up in the rapture and they would have to go through the refining fire after all. Having to learn quickly how to stand on Jesus's promise of power in signs and wonders, from the Holy Spirit, a remnant manages to survive, while also having to take great risks in order to proclaim the good news to the townspeople before they become enslaved by the mark of the beast system.

Creating a sanctuary hidden amid the chaos and fear of the world, believers begin to live as the early church had done; ordinary people with the usual human frailties desires, hopes, and pain are forced to eke out a life under the radar. Discovering in the process that an eternal spring of inner peace joy and miraculous provision can exist in a disturbing world where truth has become a lie, and a lie the truth.
