Description

""The Castle of Wolfenbach"" is a Gothic novel written by Eliza Parsons, first published in 1793. The story follows the young and beautiful Matilda, who is forced to flee from her abusive guardian and seek refuge in the remote and mysterious Castle of Wolfenbach. As she explores the castle and its surroundings, Matilda uncovers dark secrets and encounters supernatural occurrences, including a ghostly apparition. Along the way, she also meets the handsome and kind-hearted Count de Willows, with whom she falls in love. However, her past catches up with her, and she must confront her guardian and the truth about her family's history. Full of suspense, romance, and intrigue, ""The Castle of Wolfenbach"" is a classic Gothic tale that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. The whole affair is certainly very strange: often has the Marquis vowed to apply either to the Count or courts of justice; but the letters we received were never written by her, we could adduce no actual proofs of his guilt, and she continually warned us to take no steps without her permission. Thus, in a most unaccountable manner we are prohibited from doing her justice, whilst all the world believes her dead: he lives chiefly at Vienna, a dissipated life; though from my friend I hear he is at times gloomy, and apparently unhappy: this gentleman however believes my sister and her child dead, nor dare I undeceive him. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
