""The Heptameron"" is a collection of 72 short stories and novellas written by Marguerite de Navarre, a French noblewoman and sister of King Francis I. The tales are framed within a larger narrative in which a group of ten characters, five men and five women, are stranded at a mountain resort due to a flood. To pass the time, they decide to tell each other stories, with each person telling one story per day for ten days. The stories cover a wide range of topics, including love, marriage, betrayal, and religious hypocrisy. They are often bawdy and satirical, poking fun at the social conventions and moral standards of Marguerite's time. This particular edition of ""The Heptameron"" was translated into English by Walter K. Kelly and published in 1886. It includes both prose and verse translations of the stories, as well as an introduction by the translator discussing Marguerite's life and literary career.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
