The Personal Narrative of James O. Pattie is a memoir written by American frontiersman James Ohio Pattie. The book recounts Pattie's experiences during his travels through the American Southwest and Mexico in the early 19th century. Pattie and his father, Sylvester, set out from Kentucky in 1824 with the goal of trapping beavers and trading furs. They traveled through present-day New Mexico, Arizona, and California, encountering various Native American tribes, Mexican soldiers, and other trappers along the way. The book provides a detailed account of the harsh conditions and dangers faced by the Patties and their companions, including attacks by hostile tribes, harsh weather, and treacherous terrain. Pattie also describes the wildlife and natural beauty of the region, as well as the customs and traditions of the Native American tribes he encountered. The Personal Narrative of James O. Pattie was first published in 1831 and is considered an important historical document of the American West.
