We see in the Old Testament that God commanded His prophets, His messenger and those who served him consistently to anoint others for various callings and to accomplish specific tasks. The purpose of Saul's anointing was to dedicate him to God for the special task to which he was called and to impart to him, enabling and empowering him for the tasks at hand God also revealed to Samuel: "About this time tomorrow I will send you to a man from the land of Benjamin. Anoint him leader over my people Israel; he will deliver my people from the hand of the Philistines" (1st Samuel 9:15-16). Even today in the church as written in the New Testament, God sends His prophets, and His messengers, to anoint people for specific tasks within the world and the body of Christ. Even greater, God has sent the Holy Spirit to His people empowering, leading and guiding them into God's will, plans and purposes in their lives, the lives of others and the world.
