I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. My parents immigrated here
from Haiti. I was always taught to have compassion for other people by them.
It's a lesson that I have carried throughout my life. I started taking poetry
seriously in 2017, before then it was rare that I would write anything. I would
write poems on guest checks at the restaurant I was working at, at the time.
It was a weird point in my life where I was moving through it on autopilot
and not taking care of myself. I wrote to keep myself sane and shift through
my emotions. It was then, when I started sharing them with other people and
found that they were resonating with it. Being that I am an avid reader and
movie watcher, I was slightly obsessed with all the inner working of dialogue
in general. The way words can be put together to heal and create beautiful
moments has stuck with me in a way that I cannot describe.
