A series of unfortunate events go from bad to horrible, and Chief of Staff Tony O'Connor finds himself in intensive care. He threatens to fire half of his employees, which causes panic throughout the hospital.
And then his impossible neurotic mother and his complicated family issues make everything even worse. He has an ex who walked out on him, leaving him with his beloved little daughter to raise. He has a hospital to run which has financial problems, and now he's a patient in Emerg because he slipped on a wrapper. Is it any wonder he's in a rage?
Kate Lewis, the hospital's patient rep, is an expert at resolving anger issues, but with Tony and his raging mother, her ability is being severely tested.
Kate's personal life is also hopelessly messy, and she slowly comes to realize that neither she nor Tony has ever learned to put their own needs first.
They need to figure out what to do about the feelings they have for each other—and what to do about two clever little girls who pull the strings to their hearts.
Tony's daughter and Kate's stepdaughter are more than eager to further complicate the whole mess.
They need a rescue remedy. Maybe tough love is the answer?
