Mother Teresa 978-0-88942-519-1
This beautifully illustrated children's book tells the life and legacy of Mother Teresa, who is best known for her wholehearted service to the poor as well as her devotion to prayer and the Eucharist. Children will learn how Mother Teresa began her service in response to a direct call from Jesus--a ministry that continues today in 139 countries with close to 6,000 Missionaries of Charity Sisters serving the poor. In simple, easily understandable language, author Rev. Jude Winkler, OFM. Conv. shares the inspiring story of this modern saint with young Catholic readers.
Mother Teresa was a kind and loving woman who spent her life helping the poor and sick. She was born in 1910 in a country called Macedonia, and her real name was Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. When she was young, she felt called by God to help others, so she became a nun and moved to India. In India, Mother Teresa saw many people who were very poor, hungry, and sick, especially in the city of Kolkata. She was on a train making a retreat in a distant city and heard Jesus call her to serve the poorest of the poor. She went on to fund an Order of nuns called the Missionaries of Charity. Together, they opened homes to care for people who had nowhere else to go, offering them food, medicine, and love. Mother Teresa was known for her gentle smile and the way she treated everyone with kindness, no matter how poor they were. She believed that every person is important and deserves to be loved. Her work inspired many people around the world to help others, too.
In 1979, she won the Nobel Peace Prize for her work with the poor. Mother Teresa passed away in 1997, but her legacy of love and care continues to inspire people everywhere.
