Description
"Racetrack not on raceday" is the eighth collection of poems by Michael Ayres. Divided into two parts (the fixated melancholy of "Wandering alone for thousands of years", followed by the more playful, Mannerist "Delirium rented room") the book is a study in narrative and mood. "Racetrack" stands at a pivotal point in Ayres' development, glancing backwards to the dazed, desaturated visions of the doomladen triptych, "When the volts flowed" (written around the turn of the millennium) but also looking forwards to the first "hypergram" poems (2012) and the work that inaugurated the sustained, highly innovative phase of the writer's recent output.
