Description

Miss Marie Wilder lost both her parents in an accident and was brought up in an orphanage at Sandford. When she turned sixteen, she was sent to Sandford Abbey to work as a housemaid where she worked for ten years until eventually working her way up to be assistant housekeeper there.Things are running smoothly at the Abbey until Lord Clifton Sandford disappears one night under suspicious circumstances after a dinner. His Lordship's disappearance sparks talk in the servant's quarters and Marie Wilder, a fan of detective fiction, begins a little amateur investigation of her own. DCI Jonathan Bailey is put on the case and Prejudiced against the aristocracy he is keen to dish the dirt on the family, which doesn't go down too well with loyal Marie and she is ill at ease with the Inspector at the start. Being in possession of a secret involving the family, makes her more determined to dislike him and remain silent about the secret causing DCI Bailey to suspect her of involvement in his Lordship's disapearance. Can she keep the secret and remain loyal to the family without jeopardising her own position?
